Letter from a Chinese student
Below is a letter written to Mai Pearls from another Chinese student who was sponsored last year to continue his studies;
Dear Aunties and Uncles:
How are you? It’s my pleasure to write to you again. Are you well on both health and work fronts? With your help, the financial pressure on my parents have been relieved, so that I can finish my junior school studies. It’s you who give me so much help and provided a solution to my problem of not being able to continue with studies. Being poor had made me look down on myself and even try to give up studying. But you bring me hope; bring me back to school with a full sense of enjoyment. With the study tools given, it has helped me improve in my studies.
From the time I received your help, my grades have improved and I am now more self-confident and believing in my future. In the next one month, I’ll study hard and try to enter the school that I would like to get into.
There’s an old Chinese proverb that says that “If fish is without water, it will die”. I believe that I can conquer all the difficulties I encounter and then taste the sweetness of having overcome these struggles. The road of life is rough and windy that you wouldn’t know unless you tread that path, I believe now that I can handle the difficulties.
Finally, wish you good health and success at work.
Sincerely yours, Tian Lixing

Operation Blessing
Here is a letter from Ma Hucheng, a Chinese child who was sponsored last academic year by Mai Pearls enabling him to go to school...
Dear Aunties and Uncles:
How are you? Wish you a good health and work successful.
Thank you very much for the support. I’m so lucky to have your help and I can go on with my studies. Before the start of this school term, I hesitated on whether to go on with my studies. At that time, it was either my brother or I who would have to discontinue with studies as my family can’t afford the tuition of us both. I wanted to give up my studies to allow my older brother the chance to continue. I really didn’t want make my mother to be burdened with our tuition fees.
On the school enrolment day, when I saw my neighbours’ children go to school together, I felt so painful. I thought I wouldn’t be able to go to school any more. But exceeding my expections, I returned to class and kept on studying again. It’s the help from you that gave me a chance to realise my great dream. I’m so grateful to you. Your support to me is like a delicious meal to a bird who would otherwise starve to death, allowing me to see the good that is on this earth. Thank you very much.
My dear aunties and uncles, I just wish you well to your health and work from the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely yours,
Ma Hucheng

Operation Blessing
Dear Aunties and Uncles:
How are you? I hope that you are well and your work is going well. Appreciate you extending a helping hand that has saved me from discontinuing my studies. With your help, there has been a great change in my studies and even in my life. My parents need not worry about my education fees anymore. Instead, they can now buy for me some school books and stationery relevant for my studies. Thank you so much for your help, allowing me to have a good foundation in life.
I am gradually realizing that in life, there will always be difficulties. But these challenges and difficulties do not have to dictate one’s direction of his development. I have never complained that the world is unfair even though it seems that all the tribulations fall on the poor and all the happiness is bestowed on the rich. I thought that we poor people suffered all the hardships in world. But now, I find that I’m wrong in my thinking. The rich get their success through their own struggles to break away from poverty. So, although living in these remote mountain regions, I won’t complain about how unfair my fate is any more. I believe that as long as I can try my best to work hard and struggle against all the obstacles in front of mine, I can also reach success eventually.
My dear aunties and uncles, thank you again for your help time after time. It has really caused me to think a lot about life, and now I can understand it better. Your help is so appreciated, it has done me a great favor and given me a desire to be able to soar.
Best wishes for your good health and good work.
Sincerely yours,
Cui Xuemei

Where do some of the profits go?
I have just heard from Operation Blessing in Beijing that during the year 2007-08 Mai Pearls were able to sponsor 25 chinese students through the Adopt-A-Student program.
Although many children living in poor areas in China are not required to pay for their full tuition, related school and educational costs exceed the ability of many families living in poverty and extreme poverty. Operation Blessing China’s Education Program has assisted thousands of children from 14 provinces with their tuition and related educational costs, helping many who otherwise would never complete a primary and middle school education.
I am hoping to receive some letters from the students that Mai Pearls have sponsored and once I do so, I will post them on the blog. Keep looking out for them!

Under valued?
I recently read that a study by Halifax Home Insurance, published in May ’08 showed that the British public own £52 billion worth of jewellery and that much of it is not insured! The study showed that 35% of people had never had their jewellery collection valued and 10% had not had a jewellery valuation in the past 10 years.
If this all sounds familiar, why not have a valuation – you might find that you have been sitting on a nest of golden eggs!

Lunch Time Sales
Over the next two weeks, I will be at two of the top london auction houses over the lunchtime period, to promote and sell pearl jewellery. Lunchtime sales have really taken off and with the current weather it is no surprise why! I suppose that it is the equivelent to internet shopping for those of you who prefer to see something in person and to try things on before buying. Shopping this way could not be more convenient and often stall holders offer a special inhouse promotional offer.
Should you wish for Mai Pearls to come into your office to sell, why not contact us on info@maipearls.co.uk
